The SA Youth Choir is not just a choir. It is a unique, multi-cultural upliftment project where disadvantaged children (some of them AIDS orphans) are given a chance to dream and to realise their full potential.
The choir consists of 86 high school learners, selected from all over South Africa. They represent the true demographics of our country. The choir comprises the raw talent of South Africa. The members are accommodated in a hostel in Durbanville and receive quality education at Stellenberg High School - one of the top academic schools in the Western Cape.
This South African choral project was founded in 2005 and has already achieved great success nationally and internationally. In 2005 the choir received a gold diploma and a 2nd prize at the International Musical Eisteddfod in Llangollen, Wales and in 2008 they won two first prizes in the categories for Chamber Choirs and Folklore at the International Choral Kathaumixw in Powell River, Canada. Members of the SA Youth Choir also delight audiences all over South Africa and in the process inspire many children, giving them hope for a brighter future.
Until 2008 the choir was sponsored by large corporate companies like Fidentia, Steeledale, Infraset and PetroSA. The chances for a sole 100% sponsorship for 2009 are very slim, due to the current economic climate. Therefore a team effort is necessary to raise adequate funds for this worthy project.
In order to be a financially viable entity, the choir now aims to find 2000 sponsors who will become members of its CLUB2000. The different categories of members are:
PLATINUM (R5000 pm) entitled to
- 20 free tickets for any performance
- 20 free CDs.
- Pre-concert talks
- Any after party when applicable
- 10 free tickets for any performance
- 10 free CDs
- Pre-concert talks
- 4 free tickets for any performance
- 4 free CDs
- Free tickets for any performance
- 2 free CDs
- 2 free tickets for one performance
- 1 free CD
